7TH GRADE HISTORY: GEOGRAPHY RESEARCH
-What impact did geographic location have on the traditional way of life of the first North American people?
-You will need to find information on geographic areas of the United States and information about how your tribes made use of the land they lived on.
1. Use atlases to locate and identify regions of North America :
Using the table of contents, find "North America", and look for regions: Western USA, Northeast, Great Lakes, etc. using the following atlases:
DK Concise Atlas of the World
Goode's World Atlas
Hammond World Atlas
Kingfisher Student Atlas
Reader's Digest Illustrated Atlas of the World
Young People's Atlas of the United States
2. Look at reference books which have information about Native Americans, such as:
Encyclopedia of Native American Tribes
Peoples of the World
Check the table of contents and the index to find information about the tribe you are researching.
3. Use print and online encyclopedias to locate regions of North America and information about Native Americans
In online encyclopedias, look for the "Atlas" link on encyclopedia home pages
Narrow down region to North America and United States
Look for historical information, i.e. Grolier
In print or online encyclopedias, look in the index or type in the name of a tribe, i.e. Sioux, Cheyenne, in the general search box
4. Find books about Native Americans in the library catalog
Browse subject headings such as, "Native Americans" and "Indians of North America", and look at the sub-headings that designate regions: "Indians of North America - Pacific Northwest"
You can look up the names of specific tribes, such as "Navajo" and "Cherokee" under subject.

5. Create a new bibliography for this assignment in NoodleBib recording the sources you used.
6. Look at the notetaking feature in NoodleBib. You will be able to take and organize your notes by creating clusters on specific topics, using direct quotations, paraphrasing, and including your own ideas.
